Art School

Kids, teens and adults can all take advantage of our professional art studios and expert art faculty. We offer classes for the beginner, those just exploring an interest in the arts and the more advanced student.

Ask about our weekend art birthday parties available for ages 4 and up. Call for information!

Children’s Art Classes

Creative Kids

Students will create fun 2D and 3D projects by using various art materials. Projects include decoupage, paper mache, sculpture, printmaking and painting.

Art in the Round

Clayworks

Drawing & Painting with Pat

We will incorporate basic principles of art, in various media. Students learn specific techniques in drawing and painting to help develop their own styles.

Cartooning and Illustration

Learn the techniques and fundamentals of cartooning. Basic drawing skills will be stressed and classic cartoons and their artists will be studied as an inspiration to the students’ own creativity in designing their own characters.

Paper Engineering NEW!

The perfect class for people who like to build and sculpt.  Paper can be scored, folded, cut, curled and curved. Learn how to make moveable toys and floating pictures among other things.

Summer Arts Center (SAC)

Where campers pursue their passions in art, music, theatre, and dance

The joy of creative expression is what our unique Summer Arts Center (SAC) is all about. The only program of its kind in lower Westchester, SAC provides an opportunity for campers to focus on art, dance or theatre as a major, while taking electives in disciplines outside the major.

  • For campers entering grades 3-8
  • Taught by professional, adult artists/instructors
  • No previous experience necessary
  • Customized program to meet child’s individual needs
  • Option to participate in end of summer performance
  • Option to include instructional swim and/or gymnastics

Life Drawing

Students draw from the live model and learn about contour, gesture, anatomy and proportion. This class is for the novice as well as for the experienced student. Bring charcoal and large newsprint pad to class. Teens are welcome. This class will only be offered in the Fall.

Open Studio Life Painting

Open Studio is for all levels who want to work from a live model. Our models will hold a single pose for three consecutive sessions. Primarily a painting class but students may bring other materials with which to work. Students will work on their own but critiques will be offered to help students develop their own style and vision.

Painting and Mixed Media

Parent and Child 3D Art Workshops NEW!

Joni us for art projects in decoupage, papier mache and 3D pop up cards geared for parents and children to create together.  These classes will coincide with Elementary School half-days throughout the school year.  Advance registration is required.  Call us for dates and times.

Art Gallery

The Art Gallery at the JCC was generously endowed by Marjorie and Norman Alexander. It is a showcase for community artists, both professional and amateur. In addition, the Art School uses this gallery for faculty and student shows. Art Internships

The Art Department at the JCC has a strong internship program for high school students seeking to fulfill their school’s community service requirements. Students will assist instructors in our after school children’s art classes or in our Drop in Art Studio. To arrange an interview, please call the Art Director.
