Summer Arts Center (SAC)

The joy of creative expression is what Summer Arts Center (SAC) is all about. Developed for the creative and independent child, who is interested in the arts, SAC provides a non-competitive, nurturing atmosphere in which children are encouraged to explore their creativity.

The SAC Day

The SAC Day SACers begin each day with an energetic and fun-filled morning assembly, followed by 2 morning classes, lunch and 2 afternoon classes. We end each SAC day together, to enjoy snack and spend time to meet up with new and old friends. Instructional and recreational swim are offered everyday.

Performance Opportunities

All theatre majors will have the opportunity to perform in a musical revue this summer.

Campers who choose this option will spend most mornings in rehearsal and can choose any SAC classes for the afternoon, including other theatre classes, dance, art, ceramics, swimming, and gymnastics.

Full summer campers may choose to perform in one or both shows!

The Three Majors

  • Art – Our state of the art ceramics and painting studios allow for the creation of beautiful and advanced projects in all areas of fine arts. Requirements for Art majors include drawing and painting with charcoal, pencil, water color, acrylics and tempera paints. Also required are ceramics and craft classes. We will be offering some advanced fine arts classes including wheel throwing, jewelry making and pop up cards.
  • Dance – Our talented faculty teaches campers in professional dance studios each day. All Ballet classes are taught with an accompanist which helps foster a better understanding of dance as well as a love of music. Requirements for Dance majors include Classical Ballet, Tap and Jazz. Please call Jayne Santoro at 472-3300 x 320 for an appointment for placement.
  • Theatre – A 214 seat state-of-the-art theatre is home to our many theatre classes. Our talented professional faculty teaches all areas of theatre, and a performance component is available to both full summer and half summer campers. Required classes include Musical Theatre, Acting, Improvisation and Theatre Games. All theatre majors will have the opportunity to perform in a musical revue this summer.

For a well-rounded experience we recommend that you select many classes outside of your major field of interest. Elective choices include decoupage, crafts, jewelry, video, creative writing, poetry, fashion design, music (instrumental and voice ensembles), musical theatre, theatre games, improvisation, acting, tap, jazz and much more. A Course Offerings form will be available on our website in the Spring, from which you may choose your classes. After you return it to the SAC office, your personalized schedule will be arranged.
