The joy of creative expression is what Summer Arts Center (SAC) is all about. Developed for the creative and independent child, who is interested in the arts, SAC provides a non-competitive, nurturing atmosphere in which children are encouraged to explore their creativity.
The Day SACers begin each day with an energetic and fun-filled morning assembly, followed by 2 morning classes, lunch and 2 afternoon classes. We end each SAC day together, to enjoy snack and spend time to meet up with new and old friends. Instructional and recreational swim are offered everyday.
All theatre majors will have the opportunity to perform in a musical revue this summer.
Campers who choose this option will spend most mornings in rehearsal and can choose any SAC classes for the afternoon, including other theatre classes, dance, art, ceramics, swimming, and gymnastics.
Full summer campers may choose to perform in one or both shows!
For a well-rounded experience we recommend that you select many classes outside of your major field of interest. Elective choices include decoupage, crafts, jewelry, video, creative writing, poetry, fashion design, music (instrumental and voice ensembles), musical theatre, theatre games, improvisation, acting, tap, jazz and much more. A Course Offerings form will be available on our website in the Spring, from which you may choose your classes. After you return it to the SAC office, your personalized schedule will be arranged.
Below is just a sampling of the classes:
All instructors are professionals in their respective fields and many of our professional staff return each summer. They are assisted by older teen counselors, many of whom are SAC alumnae.
All classes are held in the JCC’s air-conditioned, professional studios. Dance studios are mirrored and have a specially constructed sprung floor. SAC’s theatre classes are held in the Bendheim Performing Arts Center, a 214 fixed-seat state-of-the art theatre.
