At JCCMW, we pride ourselves on the quality of our camp staff.  All groups are led by experienced educators, supported by carefully vetted and trained counselors, many of whom attended JCCMW summer programs as campers themselves.

Caryn Symons, Day Camp

In addition to 12 years as a teacher of all ages in the Nursery School, Caryn was a Head Counselor at Camp Gadol for four years prior to becoming Summer Camps Director in 2010 and Nursery School Director in 2015. She brings a love of children and her own brand of creativity, enthusiasm and community spirit that will enrich each child’s nursery school experience. Caryn received her Masters Degree in Education from Queens College and was an award winning High School Guidance Counselor before raising her two sons, who are both alumni of the JCC Nursery School and Camp.

Brian Symons, Assistant Camp Director
Brian has grown up with the JCC, in many different roles, from camper, to student, to camp counselor, to assistant teacher, and now to a Leader of Summer Days at the J. He has always had great passion for not only the JCC, but for Camp, and is excited to bring that enthusiasm to this new role. His years of experience not only as a camper, but also as a counselor brings a new insight of creativity and fun to the always exciting camp program. Brian is currently studying psychology at NYU, and is eager to prepare for this awesome summer.

Tiffany Smith, Gymnastics
Tiffany began her gymnastics journey at the age of 3.  With her goals set high, she was granted the opportunity to train alongside the Magnificent 7 as they prepared for the ’96 Olympic Games.  This elite level training sparked a passion inside her that fuels her to this day.  She backs her expertise in the sport with 20 years of coaching at the recreational, competitive, and collegiate levels.  Tiffany has mentored coaches and developed curriculums for gymnastics and cheerleading programs nationally and internationally.  Including places such as; Chile, England, Japan, Scotland, and 45 of the United States.  Travelling the world with her background in Sports Medicine has helped mold her coaching style into what it is today.  Using this knowledge and experience she brings a unique approach to coaching through family, discipline, community engagement, and the desire to empower all children.  Her goal is to educate families about the benefits of gymnastics while eliminating all stereotypes.

Kristen McGrew, Dance
Kristen received her early training in Tennessee under master teachers such as the world renowned Anna-Marie Holmes.  She has danced with professional companies Eglevsky Ballet, Charleston Ballet Theater, Bravo Dance!, Tennessee Festival Ballet and Ballet Theater of Pennsylvania and worked as a guest artist throughout the Eastern U.S. and performed across the country, dancing principal roles in the classics and world premieres. Her resume includes classical, contemporary and modern works.  She was the Ballet Mistress at Eglevsky Ballet for ten years under the directorship of Ali Pourfarrokh before becoming the Artistic Director of Nomad Contemporary Ballet. Ms. McGrew has taught at the Ailey School, and master classes and workshops in Puerto Rico, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Long Island, New Jersey and New York.  She has had her choreography presented at Dixon Place for Translate (voices of dance), the Latin Choreographer’s Festival, APAP, Rhode Island’s Great Friends Dance Festival as well as residencies at the Joffrey Dance Center and the Far Space in NYC.

Becky Rosengren, Camp Director

Congratulations to our Camp Director, Becky Rosengren, who is expecting her first child this summer and will be on maternity leave during camp.  Becky is helping with our planning and administrative arrangements and bringing her years of experience at JCCMW summer programs and as a Lead Teacher at our Nursery School to help us prepare for the best summer ever.

Do you enjoy working with kids?  Are you patient, kind and responsible and have lots sof energy?  Do you have specialist skils you can teach?

We are happy to receive expressions of interest in working as camp counselors and camp specialist staff at Summer Days.  Further details will be available shortly.
