JCCMW Kashrut and Nut Policy (11/13/23)

Overall Policy

All food brought in for JCCMW programs should either be dairy/vegetarian or come from a kosher vendor that has rabbinic supervision. See below for a list of local vendors. A person’s personal lunch is not subject to these kashrut guidelines, but is subject to the policy on peanuts and treenuts.

Vegetarian food does not contain fish, red meat, poultry, or have seasonings, broth, or ingredients that contain any of those food categories.

Some foods like marshmallows, puddings, and pastries may have ingredients that are not vegetarian. Please check labels for gelatin, lard, etc.

If there are questions about what constitutes “dairy/vegetarian” or “kosher vendor,” reach out to Rabbi Dahlia Bernstein at [email protected] or (914) 725-7300, ext. 925.

Peanut and Tree Nut Policy

The JCCMW is a peanut and tree nut–aware facility. Do not bring in any food, including a personal meal or snack, that contains peanuts or tree nuts, or may contain traces of peanuts or tree nuts.

Room Rentals

Food used in rental spaces, including at birthday parties, must adhere to the Kashrut and Nut Policy.

Personal Lunches

Kashrut guidelines do not apply to the personal food of staff and patrons. The nut guidelines do apply to the personal food of staff and patrons.

Gatherings

Food for potlucks and staff gatherings should adhere to the Kashrut and Nut Policy.
