
APP Lecture: The Elections of 1952 and 1960 (Part 1)

Evan Weiner will explore two important years in American history and address their impact on our current times and elections.
Topics covered for the election of 1952: Truman decides not to run for re-election. Eisenhower wins the election while ushering in a new era, the TV candidate. In addition, there are coups in Cuba and Egypt; the United States creates a hydrogen bomb; and Mr. Potato Head, MAD Magazine, and Holiday Inn debut.
Topics covered for the election of 1960: With the rise of the Cold War, we will continue to explore the impact of television on the presidential race, independence of African countries, civil rights, Elvis, Ali, the Beatles, the Pill, “The Twist,” and Playboy.
