Verve Poetry Reading: Estha Weiner and Nahal Motamed in Conversation with Harriet Shenkman

orange-grad-sep
Poetry heals. Poetry brings us together. Poetry reveals our humanity.
We need poetry in these challenging times.
This spring our poet-in-residence, Harriet Shenkman, PhD, will bring acclaimed Jewish poets to the JCC to read their work and engage in a conversation about the creative process.

About the Speakers

Estha Weiner’s poems have appeared in numerous anthologies and magazines, including  The New Republic and Barrow Street. Winner of a Paterson Poetry Prize, Speaker on Shakespeare for NY Council for the Humanities, and Visiting Scholar at Shakespeare Institute, Stratford, England, Estha is founding director of Sarah Lawrence College NY  Alumni Writers Nights.

Nahal Motamed, born in Tehran, Iran has lived, studied and worked in the United States, Europe and the Middle East. She is in love with words—always and forever the magic of words—in Farsi, French, and English. She frequently thinks that etymologist might have been a more appropriate career choice than transnational lawyer. She writes poetry because she has to and prose because she wants to. Most days she is piecing together a collection of poems and fighting with the heroine of her dystopian novel in progress.
