  • Writing strategies to follow— AND TO AVOID— to sound your best on paper

Workshop leader: Bettina Weil is the founder of Weil College Advising, a college consulting firm based in Westchester, NY. She has 14 years of experience and coached hundreds of students on their college applications. Bettina earned a masters degree in Social Work from Columbia University. She previously worked as Director of College Programs at a non-profit organization and at the State University of New Work.

College Starter Admissions and Applications Academy

  • Understand what admissions officers seek in an applicant and a college application
  • Research colleges and create college lists, which include safety, target and reach schools
  • Brainstorm, write and refine the core college essay and up to two supplemental college essays
  • Explore interests, talents and activities to complete a detailed extracurricular profile
  • Start and finish the Common Application


Students will receive plenty of 1-1 support in this small group setting

The class will be led by Jeff Hirsch, a New York State certified school counselor and former teacher, who has worked in New York City and Westchester for the past seventeen years. As a school counselor, Jeff regularly speaks with college representatives and understands first-hand what colleges seek in applicants.
